Create design onlineAbout Mukgenia NOVA 'Flame'
Mukgenia NOVA ‘Flame’ is a compact hybrid with dark-pink flowers and bold, jagged foliage that colors in fall. Terra Nova describes it as a long-lived perennial for mixed beds and containers, with a notably short stature.
## Garden Use
Set this clumping plant near a path or at the front of a mixed border, where its pink flowers and textured leaves can be seen. Terra Nova lists an 8-inch foliage height and 14-inch width, with flower stems reaching about 13 inches; blooms are listed for April, May, and June. The thick leaves hold on later into fall than Mukdenia before the plant goes dormant for winter. The developer gives USDA hardiness Zones 3–9 and lists full sun, part shade, or full shade as exposures.
## Growing Notes
Plant in leafy, well-drained soil and provide average to moderate moisture. Terra Nova specifically notes that this selection is not drought tolerant, so water during dry periods rather than letting the root zone stay dry. Its hybrid combines the dark-pink flowers of Bergenia with jagged leaf edges and fall color from Mukdenia ‘Crimson Fans.’
## Maintenance
Keep the crown at soil level when planting. Remove damaged foliage after winter and trim away spent flower stems as needed to keep the clump neat. See the [Terra Nova NOVA® ‘Flame’ plant profile](https://www.terranovanurseries.com/product/mukgenia-nova-flame/) for the developer’s growing details.
