About Forget Me Not

Royal Blue Compact is a compact form of woodland forget-me-not, Myosotis sylvatica, with sky-blue flowers and small white or pale-yellow centers. It is often grown as a biennial or short-lived perennial, and its compact habit makes it useful near paths and at the front of spring beds. ## Garden Use Plant in full sun or partial shade; afternoon shade helps in hot summer weather. Keep the soil consistently moist but well drained, preferably with organic matter. The recorded mature size is about 6–8 inches (15–20 centimeters) tall and 6–12 inches (15–30 centimeters) wide. North Carolina Extension lists the species for USDA Zones 3a–8b. ## Growing Notes Small flowers appear densely in spring and may continue into early summer. The plant can reseed freely, so allow seedlings to fill a damp garden edge or remove spent plants where you want a tidier border. The [Garden Center Marketing cultivar profile](https://www.gardencentermarketing.com/plantName/Myosotis-sylvatica-Royal-Blue-Compact) names this exact compact selection; the [North Carolina Extension profile](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/myosotis-sylvatica/common-name/forget-me-not/) and [Royal Horticultural Society species profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/41558/myosotis-sylvatica/details) describe its broader growing needs. ## Maintenance Water during dry spells to keep the root zone from drying out. Deadhead after flowering to reduce self-seeding, or leave some flowers if you want new seedlings for the next season. Treat the planting as a short-lived perennial or biennial and let young plants replace older clumps.
