Dwarf Myrtle

Compact myrtle is a dense evergreen shrub with small, glossy leaves that are aromatic when crushed. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, or sand and says the shrub grows in moderately fertile soil. It recommends shelter from cold, drying winds; long, hot summers support flowering and fruiting. Its hardiness rating is based on UK conditions, so it is not a USDA zone rating. ## Garden use The compact, bushy form suits a low hedge, screen, courtyard, or container. Its evergreen leaves provide year-round structure, while the fragrant foliage, summer-to-autumn flowers, and dark berries add seasonal detail. ## Maintenance Allow room for a mature shrub and shape it as needed for its position.
