Create design onlineAbout Neoregelia Bromeliad
Neoregelia is a tropical bromeliad genus grown mainly for its sculptural rosettes and patterned foliage. Species and selections vary widely in size, leaf color, and care, so this broad entry represents the genus rather than a single cultivar.
## Garden use
In frost-free climates, use suitable species in warm, sheltered tropical plantings; elsewhere, grow them as houseplants or in protected containers. Many Neoregelia form a central water-holding cup and benefit from bright filtered light, warmth, airflow, and an airy, fast-draining growing medium. These are broad genus-level conditions, not guarantees for every species. Avoid treating the potting mix as a water reservoir: keep it open and drainable, and refresh cup water regularly where the plant has a defined tank. The [North Carolina Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/neoregelia/) gives additional genus-level identification and cultivation context.
## Maintenance
Protect from cold and intense direct afternoon sun. Remove dead leaves at their base, keep the growing center clear of accumulated debris, and check the exact species or cultivar before setting a permanent outdoor site.
