About Walker's Deep Blue Nepeta

Walker’s Deep Blue catmint is a distinct High Country Gardens introduction selected for deeper blue flowers than Walker’s Low. It is a long-blooming, easy-growing perennial with the same general size and garden durability as Walker’s Low; in hot, sunny conditions its flowers become especially dark blue. [High Country Gardens plant page](https://www.highcountrygardens.com/products/perennial-nepeta-walkers-deep-blue) · [RHS Walker’s Low profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/210480/nepeta-%C3%97-faassenii-walkers-low/details) ## Garden use Use this compact catmint in a sunny border, rock garden, or container, where its blue flower spikes can be seen against neighboring plants. The named form was found in a Santa Fe, New Mexico landscape and is introduced by High Country Gardens. It reaches about 18–20 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide. ## Growing conditions Give it full sun or morning sun with afternoon shade. It grows in average or clay soil and is listed for USDA zones 4–9. Catmints tolerate low-water conditions once established; water new plants while their roots develop and provide drainage. ## Seasonal display Flowers open from late spring into mid-summer, with the deepest blue color developing in hot, sunny weather. The fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial insects. ## Maintenance This is an easy-care perennial. Remove faded flower spikes after the first flush to encourage rebloom and keep the plant tidy. High Country Gardens describes catmints as resistant to deer and rabbits, though browsing can still occur.
