Australian Sword Fern

Australian swordfern is an evergreen fern with narrow, pinnately divided fronds. It is also known as Kimberley Queen fern and grows from rhizomes, sometimes with stolons ([RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/504937/nephrolepis-obliterata/details), [UF/IFAS](https://assessment.ifas.ufl.edu/assessments/nephrolepis-obliterata/)). ## Growing Conditions Use this fern for a leafy accent in a shaded planting or container. As general fern guidance, [UGA Cooperative Extension](https://extension.uga.edu/publications/detail.html?number=B987-2) recommends shade, moisture and loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Choose a position that allows the fronds room to develop, and check the growing medium regularly during warm weather. ## Maintenance Keep the root zone evenly moist while allowing excess water to drain away. Remove damaged fronds as needed, and clear dead material from around the plant without burying its crown.
