Create design onlineAbout Everleaf Genovese Basil
Everleaf Genovese is a compact, well-branched sweet basil selected for a long harvest window and classic Genovese flavor. PanAmerican Seed lists this named selection as Ocimum basilicum, 18–24 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide, with flowering delayed by up to eight weeks compared with standard basil ([PanAmerican Seed](https://www.panamseed.com/products/009100001036966/basil-everleaf-genovese/)).
### Site and growth
Plant after frost in a warm, sunny spot with moist, well-drained soil. Its compact branching habit suits both an herb bed and a pot near the kitchen. Keep the soil evenly supplied with water during dry weather, while allowing excess water to drain freely.
### Harvest and use
Harvest leaves and tender stem tips regularly for pesto, sauces, and fresh dishes. Iowa State Extension notes that removing stem tips encourages branching and new harvestable growth; cutting before flower buds open helps preserve leaf flavor. Everleaf Genovese flowers later than standard basil, extending the period for leafy harvest in warm weather.
## Maintenance
Pinch or trim the growing tips as needed to shape the plant and encourage fresh shoots. Remove flower buds when leaf production is the priority. Basil is frost-tender and is normally grown as a warm-season annual; bring a container indoors before cold weather if you want to continue harvesting.
