Leccino is an Italian olive cultivar grown for oil. It is self-sterile, so a separate compatible cultivar is needed for fruit set; California extension guidance identifies Maurino as a useful pollinator, and UF/IFAS lists several other compatible options. ## Fruit and pollination
UF/IFAS classifies Leccino as having medium-sized fruit and lists Carolea, Frantoio, Maurino, Pendolino, and Picholine as potential pollinizers. A second tree of the same cultivar will not provide the distinct pollen needed. Planting advice should account for the compatibility of nearby cultivars and local conditions.
## Maintenance
Olives need well-drained soil and may tolerate drought once established, while irrigation can increase fruit production and size. Annual pruning helps regulate crop load. [UC Cooperative Extension](https://www.ucanr.edu/site/ucce-central-sierra-agriculture/olive-production)
