About Manzanillo Olive Tree

Manzanillo is a Spanish olive cultivar valued as a table olive. It is self-sterile, so fruit production depends on pollen from a compatible cultivar; UF/IFAS lists Ascolano and Sevillano as potential pollinizers and identifies Mission as incompatible. [UF/IFAS Extension](https://ask.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/EP515) UC Marin Master Gardeners also describe Manzanillo as a table variety with medium oil content. [UC Marin Master Gardeners](https://ucanr.edu/site/uc-marin-master-gardeners/document/olive) ## Fruit and pollination UF/IFAS classifies Manzanillo fruit as large and notes that this cultivar is self-incompatible. Choose a distinct, compatible pollinizer if a crop is desired; another Manzanillo or an incompatible Mission tree will not meet that need. ## Maintenance Olives grow in many soil types but require good drainage. Trees tolerate drought after establishment, while irrigation can improve fruit production and size. Annual pruning can regulate crop load.
