Create design onlineAbout Maurino Olive Tree
Maurino is an Italian olive cultivar with medium-sized fruit. It is self-sterile, so it needs pollen from another compatible cultivar. UF/IFAS lists Grappolo and Lazzero as potential pollinizers; UC Marin Master Gardeners also identify Maurino as a useful pollinator for Leccino. ## Fruit and pollination
Plant a different compatible olive cultivar nearby when fruit production is a goal. A second Maurino will not pollinate this tree because both are the same cultivar. Pollination compatibility varies, so use the regional guidance and local growing conditions when choosing companion trees.
## Maintenance
Olive trees need well-drained soil. They can tolerate drought once established, though irrigation can improve fruit yield and size. Annual pruning helps regulate crop load. [UC Cooperative Extension](https://www.ucanr.edu/site/ucce-central-sierra-agriculture/olive-production)
