About Orchid Satin® Rose of Sharon

Orchid Satin® is Hibiscus syriacus 'ILVO347', a seedless selection with large, single orchid-pink flowers and dark-red eyes ([Canadian cultivar record](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/ross/app00009777e.shtml), [Spring Meadow profile](https://springmeadownursery.com/plantfinder/orchid-satin-29920)). It flowers in summer, is hardy in USDA zones 5–9, grows best in full sun, and reaches 8–12 feet tall by 6–10 feet wide. ## Garden Use Use this tall flowering shrub in mixed borders, foundations, hedges, or screens. Its graceful, outward-spreading branches make it useful as a specimen; large containers can also display the flowers. ## Growing Conditions Choose full sun and a well-drained site. Clay and alkaline soils are tolerated ([Proven Winners profile](https://www.provenwinnerscolorchoice.com/plant/orchid-satin-rose-of-sharon/)). Keep moisture steady while the shrub establishes and through extended dry spells. ## Seasonal Interest Large orchid-pink blooms with red centers open over the summer season. The selection is sterile and does not set seed. ## Maintenance Routine pruning is unnecessary; shape or trim in early spring if needed.
