Akila® Purple Osteospermum

Akila Purple is a compact, seed-grown African daisy in PanAmerican Seed’s Akila series. The exact breeder page identifies the Purple selection as PAS844621 and describes a mounded habit, 10–14 in. height, 14–20 in. width, sun exposure, and flowering from early through late spring. This purple-flowered selection is distinct from Akila Lavender Shades, the unspecific Mixture, and White Purple Eye. The Akila series is presented for containers and mass plantings, with full, well-branched plants described as drought tolerant after establishment. [PanAmerican Seed’s Purple page](https://www.panamseed.com/Products/046106258004341/osteospermum-akila-purple/) supports the selected color and current size profile; the [2026–27 catalog](https://catalog.panamseed.com/view/445948364/74/) confirms series dimensions, and official [Akila series material](https://www.panamseed.com/MarketingPDF.aspx?blobid=801) corroborates the correct product code. [Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/osteospermum) supplies species-level garden guidance, not cultivar-specific hardiness. ## Maintenance Grow in sun and well-drained soil. Water during establishment and extended dry periods; established plants are described by the breeder as drought tolerant. Flowering may slow in hot weather for many osteospermum cultivars, depending on local conditions.
