Ostica™ Amethyst is a named Osteospermum ecklonis selection in Danziger's Ostica series. Danziger's catalog lists Amethyst among the series cultivars; the current series profile describes an early-flowering, mounded plant with large single flowers and a compact size. The listed series dimensions are 8–10 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide. [Danziger catalog, pages 88–89](https://www.danzigeronline.com/files/smart-view/annuals_22-23_na/88-89/), [Danziger Ostica series](https://www.danzigeronline.com/series_annuals/ostica/)
## Garden use
Its compact mound is suited to sunny pots and the front of seasonal landscape plantings. The selection is sold under the Amethyst name, while Danziger's current series page describes general habit and size across the line.
## Growing conditions
Osteospermum generally performs best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Illinois Extension describes these daisies as useful container plants whose flowering can ease during hot weather, making cool spring and fall conditions favorable in warm-summer areas. Water when the upper soil begins to dry, taking care not to leave roots in saturated ground. [Illinois Extension](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/osteospermum)
## Maintenance
Remove faded flowers and trim lightly to retain a compact outline. Protect from hard freezes where grown as a seasonal bedding plant. Osteospermum is in the Asteraceae family. [Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/10323-1)
