About Bowl of Beauty Peony

Bowl of Beauty is a Japanese-form herbaceous peony with broad fuchsia-pink guard petals surrounding a pale lemon to creamy center. The strong, leafy plant carries a striking early-season display and brings a large, rounded flower form to sunny or lightly shaded borders. ## Flowers and placement The American Peony Society records Bowl of Beauty as a Lactiflora Group cultivar introduced by Hoogendoorn in 1949. Its registry describes strong stems and flowers about 12 inches across, with fuchsia-rose outer petals and pale lemon staminodes. The [RHS plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/235083/paeonia-bowl-of-beauty/details) lists an approximately 80-centimeter height and cupped cerise-pink flowers with creamy petaloids. The broad mature spread makes it useful in a mixed perennial border; support may help when heavy flowers catch rain. ## Growing conditions Grow in full sun or partial shade in deep, fertile, humus-rich soil that stays moist but drains well. Avoid places where water pools around the crown. The [RHS profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/235083/paeonia-bowl-of-beauty/details) recommends shelter and well-drained soil. ## Maintenance Remove faded blooms while leaving the foliage to replenish the roots. After leaves die back in autumn, cut down the stems and clear diseased material. Water the soil near the drip line when needed rather than wetting the leaves.
