About Peony 'Callie's Memory'

Callie's Memory is an intersectional peony registered by R.F. Anderson for its yellow-cream, semi-double flowers. Maroon flares and a fine picotee edge mark the petals, while long stems and a substantial, spreading mature plant distinguish this selection. The American Peony Society records a mature height of 28–30 inches and a wide spread of 40–68 inches. [American Peony Society cultivar registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/callies-memory/). ## Garden Use and Growing Conditions The long stems make Callie's Memory useful for cutting as well as for a sunny perennial border. Like other garden peonies, it grows best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Illinois Extension cautions that planting too deeply or applying too much fertilizer can reduce flowering; keep the crown close to the soil surface and avoid excessive feeding. [University of Illinois Extension peony guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/peony). ## Maintenance Water during establishment and extended dry spells, allowing excess water to drain away. Leave adequate room for the mature spread, and avoid disturbing the crown when clearing old foliage. Cut back dead stems in early spring as new growth emerges.
