About Peony 'Felix Crousse'

Félix Crousse is a lactiflora peony introduced by Crousse in 1881. The large, double flowers are a brilliant, even crimson with a silky sheen, and the cultivar is known for abundant flowering and medium height. The American Peony Society notes that the stems are weak and may need support; its fragrance is slight. [American Peony Society cultivar registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/felix-crousse/). ## Garden Use and Growing Conditions The clear crimson blooms stand out in a sunny perennial border. Plant in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. University of Illinois Extension recommends shallow planting and very light fertilization for peonies, since deep planting and excess fertilizer can reduce flowering. [University of Illinois Extension peony guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/peony). ## Maintenance Install a peony ring or other support before buds open to help keep the flowering stems upright. Water while the plant establishes and during prolonged dry weather, while allowing excess water to drain. Clear old foliage in early spring without disturbing emerging growth.
