About Peony 'Felix Supreme'

‘Felix Supreme’ is a midseason lactiflora peony introduced by Kriek in 1955. Its large, full-double flowers are rich ruby red, and the American Peony Society describes the stems and flowers as suitable for cutting as well as garden and exhibition display. [American Peony Society cultivar registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/felix-supreme/). ## Garden Use and Growing Conditions Use the flowering stems in a sunny perennial border or cut-flower garden. Illinois Extension recommends full sun and moist, well-drained soil for peonies; plant the root crown shallowly and avoid heavy fertilization, which can reduce flowering. [University of Illinois Extension peony guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/peony). ## Maintenance Keep soil evenly moist while a new planting establishes, then water during prolonged dry spells. Remove old foliage in early spring and keep mulch or soil from covering the crown deeply. The cultivar is noted for cut-flower use; its registry entry does not identify a need for staking.
