About Peony 'Garden Treasure'

Paeonia 'Garden Treasure' is an Itoh, or intersectional, peony: a named hybrid that grows on herbaceous stems and dies back for winter. Its semi-double golden-yellow flowers have red flares, while the broad, low plant carries large dark green leaves that can remain attractive into autumn. ## In the Garden Stems reach about 27 inches and the mature plant can spread to roughly four feet. Long, intermittent flowering extends into the mid- to late-season peonies, making Garden Treasure a substantial border specimen with a longer display than a single flush. These cultivar details are recorded by [The Peony Society](https://www.peonysociety.org/registered_peonies/garden-treasure/). ## Growing Conditions Give this deep-rooted peony fertile, humus-rich soil in full sun. Keep the soil moist but well drained; intersectional peonies dislike very wet, poor, very dry, or heavily shaded sites. The [RHS Itoh guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/peony/intersectional) describes their spreading growth and general site needs. ## Maintenance Choose a permanent planting place and avoid moving an established clump. Allow the stems and foliage to complete their seasonal growth before cutting back.
