Julia Rose is an intersectional (Itoh) peony with flowers that change color as they mature. The Royal Horticultural Society describes its semi-double, saucer-shaped blooms as deep pink, fading to apricot-orange in late spring and early summer; Monrovia’s cultivar page also documents USDA zones 4–9, full or partial sun, moist soil, and a mature size of about 2–3 feet tall and wide. ## Garden Use and Growing Conditions
Use the upright, compact perennial in a sunny or partly shaded border. The RHS describes dissected dark green foliage, bronzy-red tones in spring and autumn, and spicily scented flowers; it recommends moist but well-drained soil. Illinois Extension advises shallow planting and light fertilization for peonies. [University of Illinois Extension peony guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/peony).
## Maintenance
Keep soil moist without leaving it soggy, and avoid covering the crown deeply. Water new plants while they establish and during prolonged dry weather. Remove old foliage in early spring and leave room for the clump to mature.
