Karl Rosenfield is a tall, clump-forming peony with large crimson-red double flowers and dark green divided foliage. It blooms from late spring into early summer and suits flower borders and cutting gardens.
## Flowers and placement
The American Peony Society records Karl Rosenfield as a Lactiflora cultivar introduced by Rosenfield in 1908, with strong stems and large, bright crimson flowers. Its registry describes the flowers as unscented, while the Royal Horticultural Society profile lists them as fragrant, so fragrance may vary or be perceived differently. RHS describes mature plants as about 0.5–1 m tall and wide. ## Growing conditions
Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. Chalk, clay, loam and sandy soils are suitable. Choose a sheltered site with room for the clump and support stems if the heavy flowers need it.
## Maintenance
Remove faded flowers after bloom if seed is not wanted. Cut stems and dead foliage back in autumn, leaving healthy leaves in place through the growing season.
