About Peony 'Lady Orchid'

Lady Orchid is a lactiflora peony introduced by Bigger in 1942. The [American Peony Society registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/lady-orchid/) identifies it as seedling 87-37, with full double flowers in a near-lavender pink shade and strong, clean foliage; it lists the bloom time as late midseason. ### Placement Plant Lady Orchid in full sun or partial shade in a perennial border. Peonies grow best in fertile soil that remains moist but drains well. Choose a permanent place where the flowers can be enjoyed and the mature foliage can remain after bloom. Iowa State University Extension notes that peonies are long-lived and resent disturbance, so avoid moving an established plant unless division is needed. ### Seasonal display The double pink flowers bring a soft, full form to the peony season. Pair Lady Orchid with earlier or later varieties to extend the sequence of bloom in a mixed border. Its strong foliage provides a steady green presence once the flowers fade. ## Maintenance Remove spent flowers after bloom. In fall, cut the foliage to ground level after it dies back and clear away the leaves. Water new plants during dry periods as they establish, while avoiding waterlogged soil. Divide only when propagation or renewal is necessary.
