Mother’s Choice is a lactiflora peony introduced by Glasscock in 1950 and recognized with the American Peony Society’s Gold Medal in 1994. Its very large, full-double white blooms are carried on stiff stems. The RHS describes flowers up to 20 cm across, white with cream, pink, and lemon tones at the center that age to pale pink, appearing in early summer; it gives a mature height around 90 cm and describes the flowers as fragrant. ## Garden Use and Growing Conditions
Plant in full sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand among suitable soil types. Illinois Extension recommends shallow planting and light fertilization for peonies. [University of Illinois Extension peony guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/peony).
## Maintenance
Keep the root crown from being buried too deeply and water while the plant establishes or during prolonged dry weather. Remove old foliage in early spring. Strong stems generally hold the flowers upright, though support can help where conditions require it.
