About Peony 'Old Faithful'

Paeonia 'Old Faithful' is a late-flowering herbaceous hybrid peony with large, double red blooms. The [American Peony Society registry]() records Glasscock and Falk as originators in 1964 and describes a fourth-generation hybrid; the [RHS profile]() notes its dark red flowers and clump-forming habit. ## Flowers and habit The APS describes heavy-substance double red flowers and records this cultivar as a late bloomer among hybrids. The RHS reports flowers from summer into autumn and gives a mature height and spread of 0.5–1 m. The American Peony Society lists Old Faithful as a recipient of its Gold Medal and Award of Landscape Merit. ## Growing conditions Choose full sun or partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. The RHS lists clay, loam, and sandy soils as suitable and describes the plant as a good choice for cooler UK climates. ## Maintenance Water while the plant establishes and during extended dry periods, but avoid saturated ground. Cut the herbaceous stems to ground level after the foliage dies back in autumn. See the [RHS profile]() for additional growing information.
