About Peony 'Peter Brand'

Peter Brand is a lactiflora peony introduced from Holland before 1937. The [American Peony Society registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/peter-brand/) records Abrahm Brand as originator and describes the flowers as dark red and double. ### Placement Use Peter Brand in a sunny or partly shaded perennial border with fertile soil that stays moist but drains well. Peonies are long-lived plants, so select a permanent spot rather than moving them as the garden changes. Give the clump room to develop and keep it away from persistently wet ground. The dark red flowers make a strong focal accent among lighter spring flowers, while the divided foliage provides green structure after bloom. ### Seasonal display This named selection carries a distinct historical identity: the registry records it as a New Holland introduction and places its documentation before 1937. The registry does not give a precise bloom date, so flowering time will depend on local conditions and should not be inferred from other peony varieties. ## Maintenance Remove faded flowers after bloom. Cut foliage down after it dies in fall and clear away the leaves. Water new plants through dry spells while they establish. Avoid disturbing a mature peony unless division is needed for propagation or renewal.
