Raspberry Sundae is a lactiflora peony introduced by Carl G. Klehm in 1968. Its fragrant, early double blooms have creamy-white petals tipped with raspberry pink and gradually flush pale pink as they age, above dark green divided foliage. ## In the garden
The full, rounded flowers make a strong focal point in a mixed border and are suitable for cutting. Plants form a leafy clump around 0.5–1 m tall and wide. Allow room for air to move around the foliage and place it where the display can be enjoyed from late spring into early summer.
## Growing conditions
Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water during early growth while the roots establish; avoid planting close to competing tree roots. Peonies can take time to settle after planting, and a newly planted crown may not flower in its first year or two. [NC State Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/paeonia-herbaceous-types/) recommends good air circulation and notes that large double flowers may need support after rain.
## Maintenance
Remove spent flowers as they fade and clear dead or diseased foliage as the plant dies back. Divide or replant in fall only when needed, since established peonies dislike disturbance.
