About Peony 'Sea Shell'

Sea Shell is a clump-forming herbaceous peony with single, satin-pink flowers and a central cluster of golden stamens. It blooms in early summer above divided green foliage, giving borders a light, open display and providing flowers for cutting. ## Flowers and placement This cultivar’s single blooms show the stamens clearly, while the green foliage forms a rounded clump through the growing season. Plant it in a flower border or cottage-style garden, or cut stems as the flowers open. ## Growing Give Sea Shell full sun or partial shade and deep, rich, well-drained soil. It tolerates light shade but not waterlogged ground. The RHS lists clay, loam, sand, and chalk among suitable soil types. Allow room for a mature clump: the RHS gives approximate height and spread ranges of 0.5–1 metre and a maturity time of two to five years. Its UK H6 hardiness rating is specific to UK conditions and does not translate directly to a USDA zone. ## Maintenance Flowers may need support. In autumn, cut the foliage back to ground level and remove it to reduce the risk of disease. Established clumps can be lifted and divided in autumn if propagation or relocation is needed. ## Sources [Royal Horticultural Society plant profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/211212/paeonia-sea-shell/details) · [Iowa State University Extension: Growing Peonies](https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/growing-peonies-iowa) ## Maintenance After flowering, remove spent stems as needed; in autumn cut foliage to ground level and clear it away. Keep soil well-drained, and provide support if flower stems lean.
