About Peony 'Sunny Girl'

‘Sunny Girl’ is an APS-registered herbaceous hybrid peony introduced by Laning in 1985. Its registry entry describes full, double, medium-yellow flowers, dark-green foliage and upright stems about 36 inches tall ([American Peony Society registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/sunny-girl/)). ## Flowers and placement The rounded double flowers provide a bright yellow focal point in a perennial border or cutting garden. Plant in full sun and fertile soil with good drainage. The cultivar’s exact size and flowering date can vary with climate and growing conditions. ## Growing conditions The [RHS peony guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/peony/herbaceous/growing-guide) recommends a sunny position and fertile soil that does not become waterlogged. Plant the crown shallowly; overly deep planting can reduce flowering. Leave an established clump in place unless flowering declines, because peonies resent unnecessary disturbance. ## Maintenance Water regularly during the first year in dry weather. Support can be added in spring if the double blooms need it. After the foliage dies back in autumn, cut the stems to ground level and clear away debris.
