About Peony 'The Fawn'

‘The Fawn’ is an APS-registered lactiflora peony introduced by B. B. Wright. The registry describes rose-pink dots over a blush background; a detailed grower profile notes fully double, floriferous blooms and sturdy stems that tolerate rain and wind ([APS registry](https://americanpeonysociety.org/cultivars/peony-registry/the-fawn/); [The Peony Society profile](https://www.peonysociety.org/the-fawn/)). ## Flowers and habit The pink speckling deepens the flower’s overall color as the buds open. The Peony Society describes the plant as tall and says it flowers late in the peony season, near or overlapping ‘Sarah Bernhardt’. Use it in a sunny perennial border or cut-flower row, leaving enough foliage to support next year’s growth. ## Growing conditions Peonies grow best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. The [RHS guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/peony/herbaceous/growing-guide) advises against waterlogged soil and planting the crown too deeply. Give the plant a stable position; established peonies can remain in place for many years. ## Maintenance Water regularly during the first year and in prolonged dry spells. Remove spent flowers if seed is not wanted. After the foliage yellows in autumn, cut it back to the ground and clear away fallen leaves.
