About Frosted Explosion Grass Panicum Capillare

‘Frosted Explosion’ is an annual witchgrass with a loose, upright clump and fine, airy flower sprays. Its pale green panicles rise above narrow green leaves, which turn yellow as the season ends; the stems add light texture to beds and bouquets. ## Garden Use Use this selection as a cut-flower filler or as a delicate accent among bolder annuals. PanAmerican Seed lists it for bouquet filler and reports that harvested stems last about 10–14 days in a vase. Its mature height is about 24–30 inches; allow room for a loose, airy display. ## Growing Conditions Grow in full sun in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seed in early spring and remove spent growth after it dies down at the end of the season. The Royal Horticultural Society describes this cultivar as an annual and gives a broad 4–20 inch spread range. ## Maintenance No perennial division is needed. Clear old stems and foliage at season’s end, then resow in spring where another display is wanted.
