Switch Grass 'Purple Tears'

'Purple Tears' is a named switch-grass cultivar with an upright habit, gray-tipped flowering spikes, and purple seedheads. Its cultivar patent and the Royal Horticultural Society describe a deciduous, clump-forming perennial about 120 centimetres tall, flowering from late summer into autumn. Its soft gray-green foliage and open panicles add fine texture and late-season interest. ## Garden use Use it as a vertical accent or repeat it in a sunny border where the seedheads can remain visible into autumn. Keep this selection distinct from other switch grasses with purple foliage. ## Maintenance Grow in full sun and remove old stems before spring growth.
