Field Poppy (Papaver dubium)

The long-headed poppy is an annual species with finely divided blue-green leaves and upright stems bearing reddish-orange to reddish-pink flowers. The Royal Horticultural Society describes plants up to about 60 centimetres tall, flowering through summer and producing long, ribbed seed capsules. Its naturally airy form brings a loose, meadow-like character to open sunny spaces. ## Garden use Use it in a wildflower meadow or sunny border where its delicate flowers and seed capsules can mingle with other annuals. It grows in well-drained chalk, loam, or sandy soil. ## Maintenance Give it an open, sunny position with well-drained soil.
