Create design onlineAbout Regal Geranium
Regal geranium, correctly identified as Pelargonium grandiflorum, is an evergreen perennial with rounded, deeply serrated green leaves and clusters of large, trumpet-shaped purple-pink flowers. The flowering season runs from spring into autumn, and the bushy plant suits sheltered borders and containers.
## Plant profile and placement
The Royal Horticultural Society records this species from the Cape region of South Africa and places it in the Geraniaceae family. It grows best in a frost-free setting with well-drained, fertile soil and full sun; partial shade is tolerated. The RHS lists chalk, clay, loam, and sand among suitable soils and gives an overall mature height and spread range of about 4 to 20 inches. The species is evergreen, with a compact, bushy form.
## Flowering and display
Large blooms in shades of purple and pink appear from spring through autumn above mid-green foliage. Use the plant in a sheltered border, patio pot, or conservatory container where its flowers can be enjoyed at close range. The RHS rates it as drought resistant, though good flowering still depends on regular care during active growth.

## Maintenance
Keep it in a frost-free location and use a fertile, free-draining growing medium. Water moderately from spring through summer, then reduce watering in winter and allow the compost to dry between applications. Apply a balanced liquid feed during the growing season, switching to a higher-potassium feed when flowering begins. Pinch shoot tips in spring or early summer to encourage bushy growth and deadhead spent blooms. Overwinter container plants before autumn frost.
