About Citronella (Anti-Mosquito Plant)

Pelargonium citronellum is the lemon-scented geranium. The [RHS species profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/85680/pelargonium-citronellum-sc/details) places it among scented-leaved pelargoniums and gives its range as South Africa's Cape; this group has strongly aromatic foliage and small, single flowers. The existing common name includes “Anti-Mosquito Plant,” but scent is not evidence of mosquito-control performance, so grow this Pelargonium for its foliage and fragrance rather than relying on it as a repellent. For general Pelargonium culture, provide bright light and free-draining compost, water moderately during spring and summer, and keep tender plants out of frost. Scented-leaf types are well suited to pots where their fragrance can be enjoyed. The [RHS growing guide](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/pelargonium/growing-guide) explains care across the genus's distinct forms.
