About Calliope® Medium Bright Scarlet DL Geranium

Calliope® Medium Bright Scarlet DL is a red-flowering interspecific geranium in Syngenta’s Calliope Medium series. Syngenta lists this selection in the compact-to-medium greenhouse-vigor class and describes the series as producing large semi-double flowers with strong flowering through the season. ## Flowers and use The series guide identifies Bright Scarlet DL by name and describes Calliope Medium as an interspecific Pelargonium series for medium-sized pots and landscape programs. Its series habit is mounding, and Syngenta lists containers, hanging baskets, landscapes, patio pots, and combination plantings among the uses. Flowers are a vivid scarlet-red; the compact-to-medium production class distinguishes this selection from the more vigorous members of the series. See the [Calliope Medium guide](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/sites/g/files/kgtney2381/files/media/document/2024/10/17/sellsheet_seed_geraniuminterspecific_calliopemedium_2024.pdf) and the [series profile](https://www.syngentaflowers.com/ams/product/flower/70059858). ## Growing conditions Grow in a sunny position with well-drained soil or potting mix. Clemson Extension recommends planting annual geraniums outdoors after frost danger has passed, watering regularly while allowing soil to dry between waterings, and avoiding wilt. In very hot conditions, some afternoon shade can help. The [Clemson geranium guide](https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/geranium/) provides regional growing guidance; local heat and container conditions affect watering needs. ## Maintenance Remove faded flower clusters to prolong flowering and pinch young growth when a fuller branching plant is wanted. Use a container large enough to hold soil and water for the root system, with free drainage. Check pots more often during hot or windy weather, since they can dry faster than garden beds.
