Cayenne™ - Dwarf Fountain Grass

Cayenne™ is a dwarf fountain grass selection of Pennisetum alopecuroides, formally identified in its patent as ‘Tift PA18’ (USPP31097). Its fine, arching foliage carries red bottlebrush plumes; the exact grower listing describes a 36-inch mature height and USDA zones 5–9. The patent reports reduced seed production compared with the species. ## Growing Conditions Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. The grower listing places this selection in zones 5–9; use it as a clumping ornamental grass in a sunny border or container where its plumes can be seen. ## Maintenance Leave the foliage standing for winter structure, then cut the clump back before new spring growth. Avoid treating reduced seed production as proof of complete sterility.
