Coral Baby - Beardtongue (Penstemon)

Coral Baby is a compact beardtongue selected for upright spikes of saturated coral-pink flowers. Plant Select lists it at 16–20 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide, with flowers from May through July and often later. ## Placement Use Coral Baby in a sunny, well-drained border or rock garden, where the bright flowers rise above green foliage. The official [Plant Select profile](https://plantselect.org/plant/penstemon-barbatus-coral-baby/) identifies the selection as *Penstemon barbatus* ‘Coral Baby’, gives USDA zones 5–8, and describes its water needs as moderate to dry. Its blooms attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. The selection was introduced through Plant Select after selection by Denver nurseryman Kelly Grummons. ## Maintenance Plant in full sun and sandy, well-drained soil. Plant Select recommends deadheading during the first two years to limit seed set and strengthen the plant; after that, deadhead to encourage repeat bloom. Remove dead stems in spring. Water to establish, then adjust to rainfall and soil drainage; do not keep the crown persistently wet.
