Firecracker Beardtongue (Penstemon)

Penstemon eatonii, commonly known as firecracker penstemon, is a striking herbaceous perennial native to the Western United States. It features several upright or sprawling stems reaching up to three feet in height, adorned with leathery, deep green basal and cauline leaves. In late spring, it produces brilliant scarlet, tubular flowers that are a magnet for hummingbirds and bees. This drought-tolerant species thrives in well-drained, gravelly soils and full sun to part shade, making it ideal for rock gardens.
