SteppeSuns® Sunset Glow - Pineleaf Beardtongue (Penstemon)

SteppeSuns® Sunset Glow is a compact selection of pineleaf beardtongue with orange tubular flowers and narrow, evergreen foliage. It forms a low mound and blooms from late spring into summer, bringing warm color to dry gardens, rock gardens, and the front of a sunny planting. ## Size and Siting Plan for a plant about 12–18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide. It is rated for USDA zones 4–8 and grows in full sun or part sun. The finely textured leaves stay green through winter in suitable conditions, while the flower spikes attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. ## Soil and Water Choose a well drained site; heavy clay and winter wetness can shorten the plant’s life. In hot, low elevation gardens, afternoon shade and regular irrigation help it through summer. Once established, its compact habit suits low water plantings where drainage is reliable. ## Maintenance After flowering, remove spent stalks to keep the mound neat and encourage a tidy flush of foliage. Wait until spring before trimming winter damaged growth so living evergreen portions can be identified.
