ROCK CANDY™ Pink - Beardtongue (Penstemon)

ROCK CANDY Pink is the trade-name entry for Penstemon barbatus cv. Novapenpin. Its compact, upright, strongly branched habit carries bright pink flowers with white throats. The patent describes the cultivar as flowering without a vernalization requirement and notes that trimming can encourage further bloom. [Patent record](https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP26701P3/en) ## Flowers and form The patent records bright pink blossoms with white throats and a compact mounding habit. In observations in Pennsylvania, the most abundant flowering outdoors was primarily from May through July, with lighter flowering later; trimming can extend the display. The patent reports hardiness in USDA zone 6 during observations and says no further definitive hardiness information had been obtained. The Darwin Perennials catalog lists Novapenpin in the ROCK CANDY series. The species classification in the patent is Penstemon barbatus, and the cultivar denomination is Novapenpin. ## Maintenance Remove spent flower stems if you want to encourage additional flowering, as the patent describes.
