About Rock Mat

Petrophytum caespitosum, commonly known as mat rock spiraea, is a resilient woody perennial native to the mountainous regions of the western United States. This plant forms dense, prostrate carpets of blue-green foliage that expertly hug limestone outcrops and cliff faces. In the summer months, it produces distinctive, bottle-brush spikes of small white flowers. It is highly drought-tolerant and prefers well-drained, rocky soils, making it an ideal candidate for alpine gardens and rock crevices.
