About Amazonas™ Plum Cockatoo Petunia hybrida

Amazonas™ Plum Cockatoo is a compact Danziger petunia selected for distinctive flower coloration and green, ruffled petal edges. Danziger lists an early flowering time, a mature height of 12–14 inches, a width of 14–18 inches, and uses ranging from patio pots and hanging baskets to ground cover and landscape plantings. ### Placement and Growing Conditions Use it where its unusual flowers can be seen up close, such as a patio container or the front of a sunny bed. Petunias perform best in full sun and porous, well-drained soil; containers need drainage and may dry more quickly than garden beds. Danziger describes this selection as drought tolerant, but check pots during hot, dry weather and water as needed. ### Seasonal Interest The compact habit and large flowers suit mixed containers and small garden spaces. Its ruffled green edges add a contrasting detail among neighboring flowers; Danziger also lists it for landscape and ground-cover use. ## Maintenance Water when the growing medium begins to dry, avoiding waterlogged roots. Missouri Extension notes that petunias prefer full sun and well-drained soil, and that overwatering can contribute to root rot. Vegetatively propagated petunias can be heavier feeders, so adjust feeding to plant vigor; removing spent blooms can encourage more flowers.
