Create design onlineAbout ColorRush™ Merlot Star - Petunia
ColorRush™ Merlot Star is a vigorous, spreading Petunia hybrida for large containers, baskets, and landscape plantings. Ball FloraPlant lists a 10–12-inch height and 24–36-inch spread, describes it as vigorous and garden-performing, and notes that warmer temperatures and higher light strengthen its star pattern ([Ball FloraPlant](https://www.ballfloraplant.com/Products/Details/?phid=048807608018798)).
## Form and season
The broad, low spread makes it useful where stems can extend over a container edge or fill a sunny bed. North Carolina Extension describes garden petunias as summer bloomers and recommends full sun to partial shade with light, well-drained soil ([North Carolina Extension](https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/petunia-x-hybrida/)).
## Siting
Choose a bright site and leave room for the 2–3-foot spread. Containers should drain freely; dense spacing can limit airflow and crowd the stems.
## Maintenance
Water during establishment and dry weather, allowing excess moisture to escape. Pinch back leggy shoots to encourage branching, and remove faded flowers to keep the display neat. The dimensions and vigorous-spreading habit above are specific to Merlot Star; the broader petunia guidance is not a hardiness-zone claim.
