[Danziger’s Ray series information](https://www.danzigeronline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Petunia-Ray-2026.pdf) lists Ray Black among its large-flowered petunias and describes the series as mounded and early flowering. The [2024 Vitroflora catalogue](https://www.vitroflora.pl/download/Katalogi/vitroflora_ko_93/38/) lists its flowers as burgundy-black, giving this cultivar a dark focal color for seasonal containers and garden beds.
## Garden use
Place it in a sunny pot or annual border where the deep flowers can contrast with white, pink, or silver-toned companions. A light-colored container or surrounding foliage can help the dark blooms remain visible.
## Growing conditions
[Illinois Extension’s petunia guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/petunia) describes petunias as half-hardy annuals that flower from May through October in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Container-grown plants need frequent checks because their limited soil volume dries quickly; water thoroughly and let excess drain away.
## Maintenance
Occasional late-season pinching can keep petunias compact and blooming well. Remove faded flowers if desired and water during dry spells before the potting mix dries completely.
