Ray™ Shadow Petunia hybrida

RAY™ Shadow is a mounded petunia whose large, single flowers start yellow and mature through rose and purple hues. Danziger describes the selection as having a dramatic eye and lists it at 12–14 inches tall by 12–16 inches wide. ## Garden Use Danziger lists RAY™ Shadow for pots, hanging baskets, ground-cover plantings, and landscapes. Its changing flower tones and dramatic eye make it useful where a close view can show the color shifts; the published plant size is approximately 12–14 inches tall and 12–16 inches wide. ## Growing Conditions Choose a sunny position with moist, well-drained soil. University of Illinois Extension recommends full sun and moist, well-drained soil for petunias and notes that very heavy soils can reduce flowering. For a container, use a free-draining mix and check moisture regularly so the root zone does not dry out completely. ## Maintenance The RAY™ series is well branched, and Danziger’s production guidance says pinching is not needed for a good finish. In garden conditions, occasional late-season pinching can help petunias stay compact and bloom well.
