About Ray™ Sunflower Improved Petunia hybrida

Ray Sunflower Improved is a distinct selection from Ray Sunflower and Ray Sunshine Improved. Danziger describes this RAY™ petunia as an early-flowering, single, large-flowered plant with a mounded habit, suited to pots, hanging baskets, ground cover, and landscape planting. ## Form and placement The published mature range is 12–14 inches tall and 12–16 inches wide. Its compact outline can anchor a patio container or fill the center of a mixed pot; use the stated range for spacing rather than treating it as a single fixed size. Danziger lists United States Patent 7,642,436 for this selection. ## Growing conditions Petunias grow best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Kew places the genus Petunia in Solanaceae ([Plants of the World Online](https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:331845-2)). Choose a container with drainage holes or a garden bed that does not stay waterlogged. This variety belongs to the RAY™ series, whose breeder describes large flowers and an early flowering habit. Water when the surface begins to dry, checking containers more often during warm, windy weather. Trim back stretched stems if needed to maintain a compact display.
