About Wave® Lavender Spreading Petunia

Wave® Lavender is a spreading petunia in PanAmerican Seed’s Wave series, carrying lavender flowers along its branches. PanAmerican lists a 5–7-inch height, 36–48-inch spread and sun exposure; it also identifies this selection as an All-America Selections winner. ## Garden use Use its cascading growth to spill over container edges, fill a hanging basket or spread across the front of a sunny planting. Allow roughly 3–4 feet for mature width so neighboring plants do not crowd the trailing stems. The low profile keeps the flowers visible above a pot rim while the branches extend outward. ## Growing conditions Choose a sunny position and moist, well-drained soil; Illinois Extension notes petunias tend to flower poorly in very heavy soil. In containers, check moisture regularly because pots dry more quickly than garden beds. Water thoroughly, let excess drain and avoid leaving roots in waterlogged mix. ## Flowering and maintenance PanAmerican describes flowers along the length of each branch and flowering through the main season without trimming back. The breeder says timing is similar to Misty Lilac. Optional light pinching late in the season can keep petunias compact, though Wave is described as flowering without routine trimming.
