Create design onlineAbout Whispers™ Red - Petunia
Whispers™ Red is the trade name listed for the Petunia cultivar Whip Reeda in the Canadian cultivar register. The register lists the later selection Petrewis separately under the trade name Whispers Red ’11, so the two names refer to distinct records. The [Canadian register’s Petunia listing](https://active.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/pbrpov/cropreport/pete.shtml) supports this selection identity.
## Garden use
Use this red-flowered Petunia in seasonal beds or containers, where its color can stand out among white flowers, blue foliage, or silver-leaved companions. Petunias are widely used as warm-season annuals, and their growth habit and mature size vary by selection. Plant it where its color can be enjoyed along a border or in a mixed container, and allow neighboring plants enough room to grow.
## Growing conditions
A sunny position and fertile, well-drained soil suit many garden petunias. Water at the root zone when the soil begins to dry, taking extra care with pots and baskets in warm weather. The [Illinois Extension petunia guide](https://extension.illinois.edu/flowers/petunia) describes general petunia care and seasonal use.
## Maintenance
Remove damaged stems and tidy uneven growth as needed. Keep container drainage open and replace plants after frost in climates where Petunia does not survive winter outdoors.
