About Duo Burgundy Double Petunia

Duo Burgundy is a named multiflora double petunia selection with burgundy double blooms, suited to sunny seasonal displays. The Duo series combines full, ruffled flowers with a compact, branched habit for containers, baskets, and beds. ## In the garden PanAmerican Seed describes Duo as a compact, well-branched series bearing masses of double flowers about 2 to 2.25 inches across. The breeder lists plants at roughly 10–15 inches tall and 10–12 inches wide, with a mounded, upright habit and flowering from spring through late summer. These dimensions make Duo useful where a dense flowering mound is wanted without the larger spread of a trailing basket petunia. The color names remain distinct selections; Duo Mixture is the mixed-color option, while Blue, Burgundy, Lavender, and Rose are separate named colors. Illinois Extension describes petunias as dependable annuals, with full sun and moist, well-drained soil among their basic growing conditions. ## Planting and care Choose an open, sunny position and allow room for the plant’s mature width. In containers, use a free-draining potting mix and check moisture regularly, since pots dry faster than garden beds. Water the root zone when the mix begins to dry rather than keeping it saturated; an RHS study of petunias in containers found that careful irrigation supported good growth and that overwatering reduced plant quality. In beds, maintain even moisture during establishment and adjust watering for rainfall and hot weather. The breeder lists spring, late spring, summer, and late summer as the flowering period. ## Maintenance Remove spent flowers when a tidy display is preferred, and trim damaged stems to keep the mound balanced. Check containers more often during warm, bright spells, and replace seasonal plants when flowering naturally declines at the end of the growing season.
