About Wave® Purple Spreading Petunia

Wave® Purple is a spreading petunia in the Wave series, with purple flowers and long branches suited to broad seasonal displays. PanAmerican lists a 5–7-inch height, 36–48-inch spread and sun exposure. ## Garden use Plant it where the stems can cascade over a hanging basket or container, or spread across the sunny front of a bed. Leave approximately 3–4 feet for its mature width. Its low profile pairs well with taller upright plants in mixed containers while keeping the trailing flowers visible. ## Growing conditions Choose full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Illinois Extension notes petunias can flower poorly in very heavy soils. Container plantings dry faster than beds, so check moisture regularly, water deeply enough to reach the roots and let excess drain away. ## Flowering PanAmerican describes the Wave series as flowering along the branches through the main season without trimming back. Wave Purple begins flowering at an 11-hour day length and starts 12–14 days earlier than Purple Classic, so the two similarly named selections have distinct timing. Optional late-season pinching can be used for shaping, but routine trimming is not needed for the Wave display.
