About Littleleaf Mockorange

Littleleaf mockorange is the species Philadelphus microphyllus, a deciduous shrub with small leaves, dark bark and strongly fragrant white flowers. The [Royal Horticultural Society profile](https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/12653/philadelphus-microphyllus/details) describes an upright, compact plant flowering in late spring or early summer and lists a mature height and spread of 1–1.5 metres. It grows in full sun and in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil; the RHS notes that established plants can tolerate drier conditions. This species is native to parts of the United States and Mexico, so its performance and final size vary with climate and garden conditions. Use it as a flowering shrub in an informal border or a smaller mixed planting where its perfume can be noticed. Use the shrub where its spring fragrance can be appreciated, and leave room for its mature spread. No cultivar or developer association is asserted for this species-level record. ## Maintenance Provide water during establishment and extended dry periods. Prune after flowering when shaping is needed, since spring and early-summer flowers form on established growth.
